The Buddha said:
This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds
To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance.
A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky,
Rushing by, like a torrent down a steep mountain.

THE ONLY THING WE REALLY HAVE IS NOWNESS, IS NOW.

What the caterpillar perceives as the end, to the butterfly is just the beginning.

Ceremony at Chithurst Buddhist monastery

On Fri 23rd April Lisa went to Chithurst Buddhist monastery and held a little ceremony there with the nuns, which included planting a tree in memory of Alan.

The planting and chanting took place around 3pm. One of the chants was on getting the merit of one's practice and the other one on loving kindness.

A Tune from Kit Morgan

I made it to Alan's funeral but sadly couldn't attend at the do afterwards, so sorry I didn't get to spend more time with you all. Later that day I started writing a tune - I wanted it to be a tune for Alan, but it turned out to be more about my immediate feelings of sadness at our great loss, rather than a celebration of all the wonderful things he brought to our lives. That will have to come later. In the meantime, sorry this is a little sad, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

With love, Kit Morgan

Thank you Kit for such a beautiful tune. I've used it to create this photo-story using pictures Alan took in Portugal. He loved the waves! You can watch a different version here.

Fly Alan, Fly Free

Upon the wings of heavens love
Take your magnificent gentle soul
And cross over to the other shore.

Become a thousand winds that blow
And diamonds that glint on snow.
Be the sunlight in ripened grain
And the gentle summer rain.

So when we awaken in the morning hush
We will see you in the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.

Become the soft star that shines at night
So many moons will rise
And suns will set
But you, we won't forget.
Fly Alan, fly free
Go now and find the Light.

Love from South Africa

Magnificence

To stand on the mountain at
the top of your life with a
full heart and be able to
witness the gentle but true
footsteps of your wisdom.

To know the gift you have
sown in others who themselves
now step out toward their
true shape.

To have allowed your beauty
and joy to shine out through
your eyes and in laughter. This
is true magnificence.

Thank you for opening my heart further.

"In order for the character of a human being to reveal truly exceptional qualities, we must have the good fortune to observe its action over a long period of years. If this action is devoid of all selfishness, if the idea that directs it is one of unqualified generosity, if it is absolutely certain that it has not sought recompense anywhere, and if moreover it has left visible marks on the world, then we are unquestionably dealing with an unforgettable character."

Jean Giono, The Man Who Planted Trees (1953)
